Following up on our visit with Palmetto State Armory at SHOT Show 2016, we are happy to bring our fans this review of the Palmetto State Armory 9MM rifle (AR15).

While most ARs are chambered to fire high powered rifle cartridges, this unique rifle accepts Glock style 9mm handgun magazines, which come in various sizes and capacities, holding everywhere from 10 to 100 rounds.

The Palmetto State Armory AR9 is a great rifle to take to the range and use to teach an inexperienced shooter or young person the functions of an AR15. While the recoil of the 5.56 NATO cartridge is already very modest, the weight of the full sized rifles often isn’t reach 8 or 9 pounds in some cases.

We were very happy to report that we had no issues at all with the Palmetto State Armory 9mm rifle. We did find however that many off brand magazines do not fit the tolerances of the rifle and will not feed or drop free when the magazine release is pressed. That being said, the rifle functions flawlessly with OEM Glock magazines of every sort, we experienced equally positive function while using Glock Style magazines produced by Magpul Dynamics.

At the end of the day, this rifle may not be our go-to rifle for a self defense or home defense scenario, as we’d opt instead for more high power cartridge, however this rifle would perhaps make for a suitable close quarters combat rifle, given its similarities to the H&K MP5 which has been used by SWAT teams for decades.

With that said, the Palmetto State Armory 9mm rifle comes in at about 15% of the cost of a civilian MP5, for those who are weighing their options in the 9mm rifle world.
