In Miami a second grader brought the firearm with him to school and showed a couple friends. That is the extent of the story in Miami, but the student in Las Vegas actually discharged the firearm in a classroom environment. One of these stories alone is frightening, two is unbearable.
As owners of firearms it is our responsibility to ensure we are securing them properly. Teaching kids respect for firearms and basic firearm safety will go a long way and help prevent future situations like these. I challenge everyone who has children to teach them gun safety and proper handling techniques. I believe early education can quell the curiosity that children naturally have and lay the foundation for responsible firearm ownership throughout their entire lives. It’s our responsibility to stop the negative publicity that firearms have and it starts here.
