Law Abiding Citizens, Reasonable Gun Restrictions And Other Dangerous MYTHS

In Rants by Patrick JamesLeave a Comment

In response to a recent article about a planned protest in Austin Texas, not only did anti-gun people’s heads explode, but supposedly “pro-gun rights” people came unhinged as well. In the debate that followed a few common themes played out that grated on my nerves, so buckle up buttercup I’m about to unleash a rant that will probably infuriate most of you.

Respect, Disrespect and Self-Respect: I Do NOT Think These Words Mean What You Think They Mean.

In Rants by Patrick JamesLeave a Comment

Respect Is Earned, NOT Demanded. In the aftermath of the Michael Brown / Officer Darren Wilson grand jury findings, the focus of the rage in Ferguson Missouri and across the country has begun to morph. As the EVIDENCE comes out, it overwhelmingly supports the version of events as told by Officer Wilson, multiple witnesses and the forensic evidence. With no evidence of police misconduct or racism, the unrest has begun to focus on the issue of respect and disrespect. A perceived lack of respect of the black community in general and the seemingly disrespectful way that Michael Brown’s body was handled after the shooting. All of which seems to be the result of ignorance and lack of self-respect.

So, once again we saddle up the “words have meanings” dead horse and beat it to death again.

Respect: a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements.

Disrespect: lack of respect or courtesy or to show a lack of respect for; insult.

Self-Respect: pride and confidence in oneself; a feeling that one is behaving with honor and dignity.

Did We Expect Anything Less

In Rants by Patrick JamesLeave a Comment

Did We Expect Anything Less?It seems Obama‘s recent “stay the course” speech to the Ferguson rioters has provided an immense amount of media fodder for both sides of the political spectrum. Liberals calling him a genius who understands the problems of the oppressed while conservatives call him a “race baiter”. This would make me ROFL, if I didn’t have a dog that sheds like an old man, I would already be on the floor.

First I would like to say that my thoughts and prayers go out to all those in and around the Ferguson area, who may be affected by this insanity. Stay frosty and make good choices.

Snowpocalypse? Or Just Life?

In Rants by Patrick JamesLeave a Comment

SnowpocalypseI really don’t get the news media’s sensationalization of this snow storm in the Northeast. When we lived in Aberdeen, South Dakota in the mid to late ’60’s, 5-6 feet of snow over night was not unusual, in fact was actually the norm once a month or so. People in Canada are ROFL.

My Dad often had to dig out a “path” to be able to get the snow mobile out of the garage to go to work on. Somewhere I have a picture he took where he rolled up the garage door, and there is a narrow black strip along the top that is the night sky; the white is the snow that was about 7 feet deep in our driveway.

The National Guard and the Army Corps of Engineers would go around bulldozing streets, parking lots and using skip loaders to clear driveways. Almost everyone had some kind of tractor or Bobcat they could use to dig themselves out, and helped those neighbors and relatives out who for whatever reason didn’t have their own.

Dependence Day: The other 364 days of the year.

In Rants by Patrick JamesLeave a Comment

There will be a multitude of politicians giving flowery speeches about American Independence who will be diligently working the rest of the year to grow the welfare roles, to pass legislation that gives them more control over We The People and bashing those of us who truly believe in the principles and values that America's Independence was based upon.

It’s the night before the 4th of July, my holiday weekend plans are set and here I sit, just a few hours sleep and a wake up away from the festivities. In this late hour, winding down from the hustle and bustle of the day, it hits me that Independence Day has lost a lot meaning over the last several decades. Now don’t get me wrong, this holiday is very near and dear to me, it has not lost it’s meaning WITH ME.

When I say it has lost it’s meaning I am talking about to the nation as a whole. There will be millions of people celebrating Independence Day while their daily lives are almost entirely DEPENDENT upon the largesse of the Federal and State governments. There are people who will be celebrating Independence Day while believing that the our forefathers who won our independence were nothing more than rich, white racist slave owners. There will be a multitude of politicians giving flowery speeches about American Independence who will be diligently working the rest of the year to grow the welfare roles, to pass legislation that gives them more control over We The People and bashing those of us who truly believe in the principles and values that America’s Independence was based upon.

Gun Snobs: Anti-Gun Allies

In Rants by Patrick JamesLeave a Comment

Gun Snobs See ThisThe recent coverage of the Open Carry movement in Texas has brought the “Gun Snobs” out in full force. What is a “Gun Snob”, you ask? A Gun Snob is someone who claims to support the 2nd Amendment, BUT… They typically criticize other gun owners and advocate for a variety of issues from the open carry vs concealed carry debate to “tactics” employed in advocacy. The long-gun open carry movement in Texas is a prime example. Criticism has ranged from, “You’re hurting all gun owners” to, “Can we at least get someone under 400 lbs. to be the poster child for the movement?” One comment on a Facebook thread I was reading likened it to Rosa Parks and the civil rights movement, saying that many black Americans criticized her for “Rocking the boat”, saying she wasn’t “Helping their cause”;  of course the rest of that story is now history.

If Gun Control Doesn’t Work, We Need MORE Gun Control

In Rants by Patrick JamesLeave a Comment

This is the overriding message we are hearing from the gun control camp since Saturday.  It doesn’t really make any sense, does it?  It’s like the old saying, We lose money on each item, but we make it up in volume!

Of course, to cover up their illogic, the gun control advocates like to obfuscate and prey on the ignorance of the masses. That way, many of the people blaming the NRA won’t actually know what laws were in place where and when. They won’t know that this person underwent a background check, or that all of this happened in a gun control utopia state. The grabbers also expect their supporters to be lacking middle-school civics knowledge about Federalism and how State and Federal law interacts.

Ruled by Right Not Privilege

In Rants by Patrick JamesLeave a Comment

Over the last month I have been watching a growing momentum building against “white privilege,” which I first noticed when a trending article caught my attention of a Princeton University Student’s response after being told to “check his privilege“

Now at first, I shrugged it off as an obviously leftist attack against someone trying to achieve their own individual success, which they don’t deserve because of their skin color. We have known the Left has based its values on Privilege rather than Unalienable Rights, regardless of whether they are honest about their values or not. Every agenda of the Left promotes the premise that success and opportunity are subject to permission based on your social or economic background.

The mission of law is not to oppress persons and plunder them of their property, even thought the law may be acting in a philanthropic spirit. Its mission is to protect property.” ~Frederic Bastiat
